Final:
Carlos Alcaraz (5) (Spain) v Pablo Carreno Busta (8) (Spain)
This would be the first meeting between the two Spaniards.
In his eleventh final, Carreno Busta was aiming for his seventh title, the last one coming in Metz in September 2021.
Alcaraz had won all his three previous finals, two this year, the latest this month in Miami.
The first four games went to serve and to love.
Then Alcatraz asserted his authority over proceedings.
The second of two break points was converted in game five and next game the break was consolidated for a 4-2 lead.
Carreno Busta battled hard to avoid a double break, saving five break points in the seventh game, but he had no way of penetrating the Alcaraz serve,
Serving at 3-5 to stay in the set, Carreno Busta led 30-0 then lost the next four points and the set was over. 6-3 Alcaraz.
Alcaraz opened set two with a love game, and that meant to this stage he’d won 20 of 22 points on his own serve.
No break points faced by either player through five games, but from 3-2, Alcaraz stepped on the gas, winning the remaining games.
Carlos Alcaraz won the title 6-3 6-2, and in doing so climbed into the top ten for the first time.
