Humbert wins Antwerp

Final decided in Antwerp.

2020 European Open an ATP 250 tournament, on Hard, Greenset, in Antwerp, Belgium, 19-25 October 2020.
2019 champion (not defending):

Andy Murray who defeated wildcard Stan Wawrinka (4) 3-6 6-4 6-4

Final:

Alex de Minaur (8) (Australia) v Ugo Humbert (France)

Humbert began the first meeting of the pair with a love game on serve, then broke the Australian with his first chance.

de Minaur crested  chances to break back in both of the Frenchman’s next two service games, but couldn’t convert, and he trailed 1-4. To make matters worse, after leading 40-0 in game six, the eighth seed squandered that position and two other game points, saved three break points, but not a fourth, and the set was virtually gone.

Humbert served it out 6-1.

de Minaur saved the only two break points on offer in set two in the ninth game, and a tie break inevitably arrived.

Five of the first eight points went against serve, and Humbert led 5-3 with a serve to come.

de Minaur won that point and things were on par, the Australian 4-5 and two serves in hand.

Sadly for de Minaur he lost both points and Ugo Humbert won the day 6-1 7-6(4).

Two titles in the career of Ugo Humbert, both this year, having triumphed in Auckland in January.

He jumps six places to a career high ranking of #32.
