This is a new tournament on the ATP calendar
The following players withdrew after the main draw was published:
- Andy Murray was replaced by lucky loser Alexei Popyrin due to a hip injury
- Roberto Bautista Agut (4) was replaced by lucky loser Sumit Nagal due to an elbow injury.
Bautista Agut’s place as one of the four seeds having a first round bye was taken by Félix Auger-Aliassime (5).
Marin Cilic was instated as ninth seed, and he was moved into the place previously occupied by Auger-Aliassime in the draw.
First round results:
- Gilles Simon defeated Jordan Thompson 6-3 7-5
- Yoshihito Nishioka defeated Kyle Edmund 6-4 6-0
- Miomir Kecmanovic defeated lucky loser Sumit Nagal 4-6 7-6(4) 6-1
- Adrian Mannarino (8) defeated lucky loser Alexei Popyrin 6-2 6-2
- Qualifier Egor Gerasimov defeated wildcard Daniel Altmaier 6-1 6-0
- Steve Johnson defeated Marin Cilic (9) 7-6(3) 6-4
