The players had never met before in an ATP Tour match.
No break points were faced by either player in the opening set, and a tie break was required.
Tiafoe raced through it 7-1 and took the set 7-6(1).
Tiafoe broke the Etcheverry serve in game five of set two and led 3-2.
Serving for the match at 5-4, Tiafoe was broken, and the score was 5-5.
Another tie break was required, and serving at 5-6 Etcheverry saved a match point.
However, Tiafoe was given a second match point opportunity serving at 7-6.
He took advantage and won the set and match 7-6(1) 7-6(6).
This was title number two for Frances Tiafoe, and he had been waiting since Delray Beach in February 2018 to add to his first.
