Carballes Baena wins Marrakech title

Final day in Marrakech.

2023 Grand Prix Hassan II, an ATP 250 tournament, on Clay, in Marrakech, Morocco, 3-9 April 2023.

2022 champion (not defending):
David Goffin who defeated Alex Molcan 3-6 6-3 6-3

Final:

Alexandre Müller (France) v Roberto Carballes Baena (Spain)

The players had met once previously, with Carballes Baena winning - first round Roland Garros 2019.
This would be the first ATP final for Müller, while Carballes Baena would be competing in his second final, having won the Ecuador Open in February 
2018.

In set one, Müller saved three break points in the fourth game before holding serve for 2-2.
When serving ar 3-3, Carballes Baena was broken, and no further break chances occurred in the set.
Müller served it out 6-4.

Carballes Baena saved a break point in the opening game of set two.
The players exchanged service breaks in games six and seven, but serve was held for the rest of the set.
A tie break was required.

After the players changed ends in the tie break at 3-3, Carballes Baena won the remaining points and the set 7-6(3).

The opening game of set three was the longest of the match so far, and Müller saved two break points.
He couldn’t save a third, and Carballes Baena broke to lead 1-0.
Müller dropped serve again the seventh game - now the longest - and trailed 2-5.

Carballes Baena was down 0-40:when serving for the match, but won the next five points to take the match 4-6 7-6(3) 6-2.

His second ATP title gave Carballes Baena a boost to #51 in the rankings, twenty spots higher than his previous career high.
