Swiatek won four of the six matches between the players prior to the final.
Sabalenka won the most recent match - semi final of the 2022 WTA Finals.
In set one, Sabalenka saved a break point in game two, and held serve.
No other break points were faced in the first seven games.
Serving at 3-4, Sabalenka saved two break points, but Swiatek converted a third and led 5-3.
Swiatek proceeded to serve out the set 6-3.
Swiatek broke serve in the opening game of set two.
Break points were saved by both players in games three and four, and serve was held for the remainder of the match.
Swiatek served out the match 6-3 6-4 to retain her title.
It was title number 13 for Iga Swiatek, and second for 2023.
