Titles to Gauff (at 15 !) Medvedev, Peterson

Titles were decided in Linz, Tianjin and Shanghai

Upper Austria Ladies Linz - a WTA International tournament, on Hard Decoturf on wood, in Linz, Austria, 7-13 October 2019.

Defending champion:

Camila Giorgi (5) who defeated qualifier Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-3 6-1

Final result

- Lucky loser Coco Gauff defeated Jelena Ostapenko 6-3 1-6 6-2

At 15, Gauff is the youngest player to win a WTA title since Nicole Vaidišová won Tashkent in 2004.

She is also the second player in two years on tour to win as a lucky loser. Last year, another teenager, Olga Danilovic, won in Moscow via that route.

Gauff moves up 39 places to a career high of #71, previously #106. In the process she passes fellow US players Pegula, Townsend, McHale, Ahn, Brengle, and McNally to now be #12 American.

Former #5, Ostapenko moves up 9 spots to #63.

Tianjin Open - a WTA International tournament, on Hard Decoturf, in Tianjin, China, 7-13 October 2019.

Defending champion:

Caroline Garcia (2) who defeated wildcard Karolina Pliskova (1) 7-6(7) 6-3

Final result

Rebecca Peterson defeated Heather Watson 6-4 6-4

The second career title for Peterson, both won in the past two months, and the first loss in a WTA final for Watson.

Peterson jumps 15 spots to a career high of #44, previously #52.

Watson rockets back into the top 100, up 37 places to #88.

Rolex Shanghai Masters - an ATP Masters 1000 tournament, on Hard Decoturf, in Shanghai, China, 6-13 October 2019.

Defending champion:

Novak Djokovic (2) who defeated Borna Ćorić (13) 6-3 6-4

Final result

Daniil Medvedev (3) defeated Alexander Zverev (5) 6-4 6-1

Career title number seven for Medvedev, and fourth for 2019.

No change in ranking for either player, but more important at this time of year is the ATP Race to London.

Of the eight players to contest the ATP Finals, six have met the points requirement.

Zverev has moved up to seventh spot, so is in position to take a spot in London should he perform well in the next weeks.

Medvedev has moved up to third position, taking that from Federer. He is the hottest player on tour without doubt. Since Wimbledon, he has played six tournaments and featured in the final of each, winning three.
