and will play Daniil Medvedev in the final.
This will be the sixth successive final for Medvedev, and the ninth for 2019. He has won three of his six career titles this year, including two of the last three finals in which he has appeared. One was the Cincinnati Masters.
After a prolific 2017-2018, success has been relatively sparse for Zverev this year, with one title in May in Geneva from his two finals appearances.
Zverev has won all four encounters between the pair, including two last year, both in Masters tournaments. Through all those four matches, he has dropped only one set.
With the Shanghai success, Zverev has jumped into seventh spot in the ATP Race to London, giving him a real chance of qualifying late and providing a chance to defend his ATP Finals trophy, won so impressively last year.
Medvedev, with victory in the final, would move past Federer into third spot in the ATP Race, and with his current form, look to secure the third seeding at the ATP Finals.
