Linz - WTA semi finals

Semi final day in Linz.

Upper Austria Ladies Linz - a WTA International tournament, on Hard Decoturf on wood, in Linz, Austria, 7-13 October 2019.

Defending champion:

Camila Giorgi (5) who defeated qualifier Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-3 6-1


Semi final results

- Lucky loser Coco Gauff defeated Andrea Petkovic 6-4 6-4

- Jelena Ostapenko defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova (8) 1-6 7-6(5) 7-5,

and will play Coco Gauff in the final


Coco lost in qualifying, but was given a reprieve when injury forced Sakkari out.

As a lucky loser, the 15 year old has kept performing, including victory over top seed Kiki Bertens in the second round.

The American is the youngest to reach the final of a WTA tournament since Nicole Vaidišová at 15 won Tashkent in 2004. Vaidišová had earlier won in Vancouver that year.


Roland Garros 2017 was the scene of Ostapenko’s first title, the clay court major, following three losing finals, one in each of the years 2015-2017.

Her second career title came in Korea, September 2017, but since then her only final appearance was a loss in Miami 2018 to Sloane Stephens.   


The two have never met before in a WTA Tour match.
