3rd seed Naomi Osaka withdrew with a shoulder injury, and was replaced by first alternate Kiki Bertens, fresh from her runner up finish in Zhuhai.

- Kiki Bertens (Alt) defeated Ash Barty (1) 3-6 6-3 6-4
- Belinda Bencic (7) defeated Petra Kvitová (6) 6-3 1-6 6-4
If Barty defeats Kvitová in the final round robin match, then the top seed will progress to the semis, along with the winner of the Bencic v Bertens match.
If Kvitová defeats Barty in straight sets in the final round robin match, then Barty is eliminated.
If it goes three sets, with Kvitová winning, the better percentage of games won over the three rounds will determine who progresses to the semi finals with the winner of Bencic v Bertens.
