Thompson 1st title in Los Cabos

Final day in Los Cabos.

Defending champion:
Stefanos Tsitsipas (1) who defeated Alex de Minaur (5) 6-3 6-4

Final:

Jordan Thompson (8) (Australia) v Casper Ruud (4) (Norway)

Ruud won two of the three previous matches between the players, although Thompson won the most recent.
It was back in 2021, first round of Wimbledon.
Thompson was in his third final and looking for his first title.

Thompson saved two break points in the opening game of set one.
He saved another two break points in the fifth game 
On both occasions he held serve.

In the sixth game, Ruud had his serve broken, and Thompson led 4-2.
The Australian served for the set at 5-3.

Ruud saved two set points.
Thompson saved a break point.
Ruud saved another set point, then Thompson saved a second break back point.
The third set point was converted and Thompson took the set 6-3.

The players exchanged breaks of serve in games two and three of set two.

Thompson broke the Ruud serve in the seventh game to lead 4-3.
He served for the match at 5-4 but was broken. 5-5.

A tie break was eventually required.

Jordan Thompson won the fifth point in the tie break which was on the Ruud serve.
He maintained that advantage and proceeded to win the tie break and the match 6-3 7-6(4).

This was his first title and with it a move upwards to career high ranking of #32.
