The players met tour times previously, Swiatek winning in the 2021 Ostrava quarter finals, and Rybakina winning all three times since, all those victories coming this year - Aus Open, Indian Wells and Rome.
Rybakina broke Swiatek in the opening game of the match, then saved two break points before consolidating for 2-0.
Rybakina broke again for 4-1, but after requiring a medical time out, she was broken back.and the lead reduced to 4-2.
Swiatek survived a break point before holding and trailed 3-4.
Swiatek broke again, and games were back on serve. 4-4.
Another break point saved by the top seed and serve held for a 5-4 lead.
Rybakina finally broke the four game losing streak with a love game to level at 5-5,
For the third successive service game, Swiatek saved a break point. In fact she saved two.
She couldn’t save a third, and was broken, giving Rybakina a 6-5 advantage.
Serving for the set, Rybakina was broken, and a tie break required.
Rybakina saved three set points.
Swiatek saved one set point, and ultimately won the tie break and the set 7-6(8).
Swiatek saved two break points in game two of set two before holding.
Rybakina saved three break points in the following game but was broken on the fourth.
Swiatek led 2-1.
Swiatek broke in the seventh game to lead 5-2.
She then served out the match 7-6(8) 6-2.
