Tsitsipas won all nine previous contests between the players, including the most recent - quarter final in Barcelona this year.
In this final, the players exchanged service breaks in games four and five of set one.
Tsitsipas broke de Minaur again in the eighth game for a 5-3 lead.
He served out the set 6-3.
Tsitsipas broke serve in the opening game of set two.
De Minaur was down 0-40 in the third game but saved all three break points and eventually held serve.
Tsitsipas led 2-1.

He then served out the match 6-3 6-4.
