Qualifier Caroline Garcia who defeated Petra Kvitova 6-2 6-4
Final:
CoCo Gauff (7) (USA) v Karolina Muchova (Czech Republic)
The players had not met before in a WTA match.
For both, this would be the first final at WTA 1000 level.
Gauff broke serve in game two of the opening set, but Muchova broke back immediately.
Gauff converted the second of two break chances in game six to lead 4-2.
Muchova had Gauff down 0-40 in the seventh game.
Gauff saved the three break points and brought it back to deuce.
However, a fourth break point couldn’t be avoided, and games were back on serve.
Gauff broke again in game eight to lead 5-3, then served out the set 6-3.
Gauff saved two break points in the fourth game of set two before holding, then broke Muchova to lead 3-2.
The seventh seed broke serve again in the seventh game for a 5-2 lead.
Muchova saved three match points when Gauff was serving for it, and eventually broke to trail 3-5.
Gauff was more successful when serving for it again at 5-4.
A love game gave her victory 6-3 6-4.
Title number five for CoCo Gauff, her biggest yet, and third this year.
