Pegula wins Montreal title

Final day in Montreal.

2022 champion (not defending):

Simona Halep (15) who defeated Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-3 2-6 6-3

Semi final results:

Liudmila Samsonova (15) defeated Elena Rybakina (3) 1-6 6-1 6-2

Final:

Jessica Pegula (4) (USA) v Liudmila Samsonova (15) (Russia)

Pegula won two of the three previous matches between the players, including the most recent - first round Rome in May 2022.

Pegula didn’t face a break point in the opening set, but broke Samsonova in the fourth and sixth games for a 5-1 lead.

The American served out the set 6-1.

The rout continued in set two, where Pegula lost just two points on serve while breaking each of the Samsonova service games.

Jessica Pegula won the match 6-1 6-0 to claim her third title, and first since the Guadalajara Open in October 2022.
