Khachanov wins Zhuhai title

Final day in Zhuhai.

2023 Huafa Properties Zhuhai Championships, an ATP 250 tournament, on Hard Outdoor, Zhuhai, China, 20-26 September 2023.

Tournament last held in 2019. 
2020, 2021 and 2022 cancelled due to COVID.

2019 champion (not defending):
Alex de Minaur (7) who defeated Adrian Mannarino 7-6(4) 6-4

Final:

Karen Khachanov (1) (Russia) v Yoshihito Nishioka (8) (Japan)

Khachanov led Nishioka 3-1 head to head in previous matches between the players.
Most recently Khachanov won a round of sixteen match at this year’s Australian Open.

In the final, Khachanov broke serve in the fifth game then saved three break points before consolidating for 4-2.
Nishioka broke back and levelled at 4-4.
He then saved a couple more break points in the following game and held for 5-4.

No more break points faced and a tie break required.

Nishioka led 2-1 with two serves to come, but Khachanov won the remaining points and the set 7-6(2).

Set two, and Khachanov broke the Nishikori serve in games four and six to lead 5-1.
He served out the set and match 7-6(2) 6-1.

Karen Khachanov claimed his fifth title and first since defeating Novak Djokovic in the November 2018 Paris Masters.
