Final day in Hong Kong.
2024 Bank of China Hong Kong Open, an ATP 250 tournament, on Hard Outdoor, Hong Kong, China, 1-7 January 2024.
The tournament was dropped after 2002, and its return comes as a result of relocating the Pune, India tournament after five years of hosting there.
2002 champion (not defending):
Juan Carlos Ferrero (2) who defeated Carlos Moya (3) 6-3 1-6 7-6(4)
Final:
Andrey Rublev (1) (Russia) v Emil Ruusuvuori (Finland)
Rublev won the first two of three matches between the players.
However, the third and most recent was won by Ruusuvuori - second round of the 2023 Cincinnati Masters 1000.
Ruusuvuori would be attempting to win his first ATP Tour title in his second final.
He was a beaten finalist in the 2022 Maharashtra Open.
Ruusuvuori saved two break points in the opening game of the match before holding serve.
He was later broken in the seventh game and trailed 3-4.
Serving at 3-5 to stay in the set, Ruusuvuori saved two set points and held for 4-5.
Rublev saved a break point on the way to serving out the set 6-4.
Through eight games of set two, there weee no break chances.
In fact deuce wasn’t visited at all.
In the ninth game Rubber broke Ruusuvuori to love and led 5-4.
He then served out the match 6-4 6-4.
Title number fifteen, and first since the Swedish Open in July 2023.
