Vekic wins 1st title since 2017

Final day in Courmayeur.

2021 Courmayeur Ladies Open a WTA 250 tournament, on Hard Indoor, in Courmayeur, Italy, 25-31 October 2021.
No defending champion:
This is a new tournament on the WTA calendar.

Final:

Donna Vekic (Croatia) v Clara Tauson(5) (Denmark)

This final would be the first meeting between the players.

In her third final, Tauson would be trying to win her third title, already having secured two this year, the most recent in Luxembourg in September.

In her ninth final, Vekic was aiming to win her third title, not having lifted a trophy since Nottingham in June 2017.

The opening four games of the match were breaks of serve, and it was 2-2.

Vekic broke in the sixth game to lead 4-2.

At 2-5 30-40 Tauson saved a set point, and she saved two more when Vekic was serving for the set at 5-3.

Vekic ultimately dropped serve and a tie break decided the set.

The first six points all went to Vekic, and at the end change she had six more set points.

Despite a slight stumble, the Croatian took the set 7-6(3).

In set two, Vekic broke in the third game, saved two break points in the fourth, and broke again in the fifth to lead 4-1.

A consolidation brought Vekic to within a game of victory.

A love game from Tauson delayed any celebration.

However, Vekic served it out the next game to win 7-6(3) 6-2.

This was the first title in over four years for Donna Vekic.
