Tommy Paul wins 1st ATP title

Final day in Stockholm.

2021 Stockholm Open an ATP 250 tournament, on Hard Indoor, in Stockholm, Sweden, 7-13 November 2021.
Event not held last year due to COVID-19.

Denis Shapovalov (4) who defeated Filip Krajinovic 6-4 6-4

The final would be the first meeting between the pair, and also the first ATP final for Tommy Paul, the 2015 junior champion at Roland Garros.
Shapovalov was aiming to win his second title from a fourth final, to add to the trophy he won here two years ago.

Paul saved two break points in the opening game of the match, then broke Shapovalov to love in the fifth game.
Neither player was taken to deuce for the remainder of the set, which Paul served out 6-4.

Shapovalov saved a break point in game one of set two and broke Paul in the following game. The Canadian consolidated the break to open up a 3-0 lead.
Shapovalov rode his luck, saving three break points in the fifth game, and two more in the seventh game, to maintain the edge, and a 5-2 advantage.
Serving to stay in the set, Paul saved one set point, but couldn’t survive a second, and Shapovalov levelled the match at 4-6 6-2.

Neither serve was broken through eight games of the deciding set, but at 4-4 Shapovalov cracked, dropping serve to love, and Paul served out the match, also to love, winning 6-4 2-6 6-4.

Tommy Paul, in his first ATP final, won his first title, and as a result moved up to a career high ranking of #43.
