Final:
Jelena Ostapenko (3) (Latvia) v Clara Tauson (Denmark)
Defending champion Ostapenko, taking on teenager Tauson for the first time, was broken in the third game of the opening set.
No further break chances arose until Ostapenko served at 3-5 to stay in the set. She wasn’t up to the task and Tauson converted the second of two set points to lead 6-3.
Ostapenko revived her chances in set two, saving a break point for 2-2, before breaking the Danish serve and leading 4-3. Ostapenko served it out, levelling the match 3-6 6-4.
The pair exchanged service breaks in the decider, and the score was 2-2. In the longest game of the match, Tauson survived five deuces and two break points for a 3-2 advantage, but still games were with serve. It remained so until Ostapenko was at the line, serving at 4-5.
Down 0-40, the third seed saved one match point, but Tauson ensured conversion of the second to take the title 6-3 4-6 6-4.
This was the second title from both WTA finals Clara Tauson has contested, the other being Lyon in March this year.
She moves up 18 places to a career high ranking of #52.
