Andreeva wins 1st title in Iaşi

Final day in Iaşi.

2024 UniCredit Iaşi Open, a WTA 250 tournament, on Clay, Iaşi, Romania, 22-28 July 2024

Tournament status upgraded from lower level WTA 125 to WTA Tour level.

2023 champion (WTA 125) (not defending):
Ana Bogdan (2) who defeated wildcard Irina-Camelia Begu (1) 6-2 6-3

Final:

Mirra Andreeva (1) (Russia) v Elina Avanesyan (5) (Russia)

Andreeva won the only previous match between the players:
Second round - Rouen, April 2024.
Both appearing in first final at WTA Tour level.

Andreeva broke serve in the opening game of the first set and led 1-0.
Avanesyan broke back in the fourth game to level at 2-2.

Andreeva broke again in the following game and led 3-2.

Avanesyan saved three break points in the seventh game, and held.
She avoided going down a double break, and trailed 3-4.

Games were level at 4-4 when Avanesyan broke back in the eighth game.

Andreeva served at 4-5 to stay in the set.
She held for 5-5.

Serving at 5-6 to stay in the set, Andreeva was broken and Avanesyan took the set 7-5.

The players exchanged breaks of serve in games three and four of set two.
2-2.
The same in games seven and eight for 4-4.

Andreeva broke serve in the eleventh game and led 6-5.
She served out the set 7-5.

Andreeva broke serve in the opening game of the decider and led 1-0.
She broke serve again in the third game to lead 3-0.

Andreeva held serve and led 4-0, then Avanesyan was forced to retire.

Mirra Andreeva won the match 5-7 7-5 4-0 (retired), claiming her first WTA Tour title
