Quarter final results

- Ash Barty (1) defeated Petra Martic 7-6(6) 3-6 6-3

It hasn’t been an easy ride for Barty to reach her third semi final in Wuhan in three years, but after going down a break in the decider, the world number one steadied the ship to defeat Martic, who remarkably had won her previous 16 successive three set matches.

- Aryna Sabalenka (9) defeated wildcard Elena Rybakina 6-3 1-6 6-1, remaining on course to defend her title.

- Alison Riske defeated Elina Svitolina (3) 6-1 6-3

In a dominant performance, the American had a first serve percentage of 84, and hit 25 winners in her victory - the first over Svitolina in their fourth meeting.

- Petra Kvitová (5) defeated Dayana Yastremska 6-2 6-4, and displayed the sort of tennis which in the first part of 2019 had her leading the WTA Race. No sets dropped yet in the tournament.

The Ukraine teenager will have learned much from her first ever encounter with the dual Wimbledon champion.
