Rome - WTA early results

Rome, for the next week, is the final major lead up event before Roland Garros, and captures both men’s and women’s tennis.

Defending champion:

Elina Svitolina (4) who defeated Simona Halep (1) 6-0 6-4


The following players withdrew after entering but before the main draw was published:


- Bianca Andreescu replaced by Johanna Konta 

- Camila Giorgi replaced by Barbora Strycova 

- Angie Kerber replaced by Alison Riske 

- Maria Sharapova replaced by Viktoria Kuzmova


Donna Vekic withdrew after the main draw was published with a hip injury,  and was replaced by lucky loser Amanda Anisimova


Naomi Osaka, world number 1, is top seed.

The other seeds are all in the top 18
