Madrid - early results

Madrid, for the next week, is playing host to the very best in men’s and women’s tennis.

Defending champion:

Petra Kvitová (10) who defeated Kiki Bertens 7-6(6) 4-6 6-3


The following players withdrew after entering but before the main draw was published:


- Bianca Andreescu replaced by Pauline Parmentier 

- Camila Giorgi replaced by Kirsten Flipkens 

- Maria Sharapova replaced by Alizé Cornet 

- Serena Williams replaced by Petra Martic 

- Venus Williams replaced by Daria Gavrilova 


Naomi Osaka, world number 1, is top seed.

The other seeds are all in the top 17

- Kevin Anderson replaced by Jan-Lennard Struff

- John Isner replaced by Andreas Seppi 

- Milos Raonic replaced by Radu Albot 


Jo-Wilfried Tsonga withdrew after the main draw was published,  and was replaced by a lucky loser.


Novak Djokovic, world number 1, is top seed.

The other 15 seeds are all in the top 19

The top 8 seeds have first round byes.
