Bronzetti wins 1st title in Rabat

Final day in Rabat.

2023 Grand Prix SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem, a WTA 250 tournament, on Clay, in Rabat, Morocco, 21-27 May 2023.

Defending champion:
Martina Trevisan who defeated Claire Liu 6-2 6-1

Final:

Julia Grabher (Austria) v Lucia Bronzetti (Italy)

The players met twice before.
Bronzetti won in the first round of a challenger in Torino, July 2029.
Grabher won in the final of a challenger in Bellinzona, April 2021.

In this final, Bronzetti broke in the opening game of set one.
Grabher broke back to level at 2-2.

Bronzetti broke again to lead 4-3, and that was enough.
The Italian served out the set 6-4.

No break points faced by either player for eight games of set two.
Then the players exchanged breaks of serve. 5-5.

Grabher saved four break points in the longest game of the match to date, before holding for 6-5.
Bronzetti failed to take it to a tie break, was broken, and Grabher took the set 7-5.

Bronzetti saved four break points in game two of the decider, but was broken in game four.
Grabher led 3-1.

Bronzetti broke back immediately for 2-3, and again to lead 4-3.

Grabher was down 4-5 and facing defeat as her opponent was serving for the match.
However, Bronzetti was broken and 5-5 the score.

One final break of serve gave Bronzetti a second chance to serve it out, which she did 6-4 5-7 7-5.

This was the first WTA title for Bronzetti in her second final.
