Osorio, in her third final, was aiming for a second title, her first coming in Bogotá in April 2019.
Fernandez, last years US Open finalist, and in her fourth final, was also aiming for a second title, defending her trophy from Monterrey last year.
Fernandez led 3-0 in the opening set after breaking serve in the second game.
The second seed saved a break point in the sixth game, and held for 4-2, but was broken when serving for the set at 5-4.
At 4-5 in the eventual tie break, Osorio won both points on her serve, to reach set point. Fernandez failed to win the next point on her serve, and the set went to Osorio 7-6(5).
Fernandez broke the Osorio serve twice to produce a 4-1 lead in set two.
The Colombian retrieved one of the breaks, but as in set one, Fernandez served at 5-4 for the set,
At 0-40, it seemed that Fernandez would again fail, but she rattled off five straight points to win the game and the set 6-4.
In the decider, Osorio saved three break points in the first game, but couldn’t survive a fourth, and Fernandez led 1-0.
That advantage was squashed in a flash, when Osorio broke Fernandez to love, and with a consolidating hold took a 2-1 lead.
In game four, Fernandez saved a break point, saw two game points of her own disappear, then was broken with the second chance presented to Osorio.
Osorio survived a three deuce game including a break point, and extended her lead to 4-1.
Fernandez broke back in the seventh game, and it was back on serve, Osorio ahead 4-3.
Serving at 4-5, Fernandez saved a match point before levelling at 5-5.
Serving at 5-6, Fernandez saved another three match points. A fourth match point arrived in the game, but the players had to wait because of a light failure.
Once play was resumed, that match point was also saved and a tie break was forced.
Fernandez won the tie break and the match 6-7(5) 6-4 7-6(3).
A successful title defence for Leylah Fernandez.
