Cameron Norrie wins Indian Wells

Final day in Indian Wells.

2021 BNP Paribas Open an ATP Masters 1000 tournament, on Hard, in Indian Wells, California, USA, 4-17 October 2021.

In their only clash prior to this final, Norrie won in straight sets in Rotterdam earlier this year.
Neither player had contested a Masters 1000 final before this years Indian Wells tournament, but both had enjoyed success in other level events this year. Basilashvili won tournaments in Munich and Doha, while Norrie lifted the trophy in Los Cabos.

In the Indian Wells final, Norrie was first to strike, breaking in the third game, and consolidating for a 3-1 lead. From there however it was all Basilashvili. The Georgian broke back in the sixth game, then cracked the Brit again in the eighth, before serving out the set 6-3.

As in the opening set, set two saw a break in game three. This time, though, it was Basilashvili who broke Norrie and took the 2-1 advantage.
Norrie broke back immediately for 2-2.
From 15-30, Norrie served strongly to hold, and then had a break point in the next game, which Basilashvili saved.
Basilashvili was not as fortunate when at 4-5 he couldn’t win a point when serving to stay in the set.
Norrie broke and levelled the match at 3-6 6-4.

In game two of the decider, Norrie broke after Basilashvili led 30-15, then the Brit held serve after trailing 0-40. He led 3-0.
At 1-4, Basilashvili was broken again, and Norrie would serve for the title.
Norrie cruised to 40-15 and two match points. Basilashvili hit a forehand long and the contest was over.

Cameron Norrie won the title 3-6 6-4 6-1. With the win, he moved up 11 spots to a career high ranking of #15.
