Tsitsipas began the match saving two break points, the second with an ace. Two more aces sealed the game. Djokovic dished up a love game in reply, and Tsitsipas had no trouble in his second trip to the line to lead 2-1.
Djokovic sealed another love game with a winning drop shot. An ace at 30-30 helped Tsitsipas on his way to 3-2.
At 4-5, and serving to stay in the set, Djokovic missed an easy overhead, and eventually had to save a set point to reach 5-5.
Tsitsipas missed a backhand at 30-30 handing break point to Djokovic. A forehand miss followed and Djokovic would serve for the set.
Djokovic was down 0-40, saved one of the break points, but was broken anyway, and a tie break was required.
Tsitsipas, with the momentum, raced to 4-0 and 5-2 in the tie break. Djokovic fought back, even having a set point at 6-5, but Tsitsipas won the final three points to take the set 7-6(6).
Tsitsipas converted the second of three break points in the opening game of set two and Djokovic was under immense pressure.
At 2-4 Djokovic saved two break points but not a third and Tsitsipas served for a two set lead.
The fifth seed clinched the set with his first set point. 6-2 and one set from the trophy.
The fourth game of set three was the longest of the match so far, and it featured a comeback from Djokovic after Tsitsipas led 40-15. The Greek player had to end up saving four break points before Djokovic converted a fifth and led 3-1.
No more service breaks and Djokovic served out the set 6-3.
Djokovic broke the Tsitsipas serve twice to take a 4-0 lead in set four. He managed this advantage and served out the set 6-2. A fifth set would decide the title.
Djokovic broke in the third game of the decider and had the chance of a double break but Tsitsipas saved two break points in the seventh game.
Djokovic served for the title at 5-4, and won on a second match point. 6-7(6) 2-6 6-3 6-2 6-4

Now with both the Australian Open and Roland Garros, Djokovic is half way to a potential calendar year Grand Slam.
