ATP First round

  • Laslo Djere defeated qualifier Alessandro Giannessi 7-6(5) 4-6 6-4

ATP Second round

  • Christian Garin v Jaume Munar (6)

In set one, Munar had a tremendous first serve percentage of 85, yet could only garner 19 of the 34 points when the primary delivery was legitimate.  Garin was successful with his first serve only 54% of the time but the Chilean won the point 15 out of 21 occasions.

Yet Munar created six break chances compared with only two for Garin.

Both players were broken twice and a tie break called.  Garin edged his seeded opponent out to take the advantage 7-6(5).

The identical amount of break opportunities presented themselves to each player in set two, but none were used for personal benefit and a second tie break was required, this one falling to the Spaniard 7-6(4), forcing a deciding set.

Set three was a servers paradise, and neither Garin nor Munar faced a break point when at the line.  The tie break became the ultimate arbiter, and the 92 ranked South American cleaned up.
