The third round of robin matches have been played in Zhuhai for the Hengqin Life WTA Elite Trophy, and the first semi finalist has been determined.
ORCHID GROUP
Ash Barty (9) needed to win in straight sets, and she defeated Caroline Garcia (8) 6-3 6-4, to keep her hopes alive.
The pair were playing each other for the first time since their only previous meeting in Wuhan at the end of 2017, where Barty served for the match twice, but ended up losing.
This time was different. The Australian never faced a break point in the entire match, served five aces and no double faults.
Barty won 79% of points on her first serve and 70% on her second delivery. She broke Garcia in the fourth game of set one, and the third game of set two, and dominated the show.
ROSE GROUP
Julia Goerges (5) defeated Elise Mertens (4) 6-2 7-6(5), and each of the players in the group finished with a win and a loss.
Because of a superior percentage of sets won, Goerges progressed to the semi finals.
CAMELLIA GROUP
Anastasija Sevastova (2) defeated wildcard Shuai Zhang (12) 3-6 6-3 6-2

Lyudmyla Kichenok / Nadiia Kichenok (3) defeated Miyu Kato / Makato Ninomiya (2) 6-4 1-6 10-7
