del potro wins - Muguruza free pass

del Potro achieved a vital break in the third set and held that advantage through to 4-3.  An Argentine error was followed by four big serves for a solid service hold and 5-3 del Potro.

Two ripping forehand returns came from del Potro in the ninth game, one setting up match point.  Isner saved it with a forehand winner of his own, and proceeded to hold for 4-5.  The Argentine would be serving now for the match.

Two forehand winners and a huge serve set up match point for del Potro but it was saved with a big ground stroke from Isner.

He wasn’t as fortunate on the second match point however, and Juan Martin del Potro enters the quarter final 6-4 6-4 6-4 to play the winner of Cilic and Fognini.

If he wins that, he moves to number four in the world, his highest career ranking, achieved last in February 2014.

Cilic won the first two sets against Fognini but the Italian rallied to level the match at 4-6 1-6 6-3 7-6(4), saving a match point in the process.

Meanwhile, Garbiñe Muguruza was given a free pass to her quarter final 2-0 (retired) due to an injury to Lesia Tsurenko.

She will play Maria Sharapova, who played two less games than Garbine thanks to the Serena withdrawal, to reach that point.  So both will be fresh for the battle.

Sharapova the 2012 and 2014 champion, and Muguruza the 2016 trophy holder.  If Sharapova wins she will move into the top twenty
