Mixed Doubles - for a change

Court 2 beckoned and Bernard Tomic had landed himself a dream mixed doubles partner in Serbian Jelena Jankovic. Australian youngsters Ben Mitchell and Ash Barty were the opposition and the crowd packed out the court, particularly notable for a few happy female Spanish fans, mainly due to having just witnessed Ferrer defeat Chela in a men's singles third round match.

The dominant player on court for the first set was Jelena. She, with occasional input from her student Bernard, swamped the Australian pair. Of particular interest, apart from the delightful pink dress, was the ease with which she volleyed and half volleyed, a skill one hopes she employs to good effect in her fourth round encounter with Caroline Wozniacki.

Team Tomkovic won all six first set games and the opening two of set two before the Australian team fulfilled it's end of the contract and actually contested seriously. The score reached 4-3 and MVP Jelena served successfully giving Ash and Ben the stress of having to hold to have the match stretched further. They didn't and it wasn't. Jankovic/Tomic 6-0 6-3

I would have another engagement with them both the following night as they were picked for singles action. (not against each other I believe)
