A disgraceful incorrect calling of the points by the umpire in the third set where games were 1-1 and Sharma had won three points on the Gatto-Montecone serve,
The score was called 30-15 and led to a complete mess. Gatto-Montecone ended up holding serve illegitimately and despite attempts by Sharma to have the game reviewed by linesmen, video and the referee, the umpire refused and what should have been Sharma ahead with a break turned the match and eventually the Australian lost.
The momentum may well have continued with Sharma had proper calling of the score occurred, but we will never know. It was also disappointing that the opponent didn’t support Sharma - she clearly knew there had been a mistake.
