Hurkacz 1st Masters 1000 title

Final day in Miami Open - ATP Masters 1000

2021 Miami Open an ATP Masters 1000 tournament, on Hard Outdoor, in Miami, Florida, USA, 22 March - 4 April 2021.
Event not held last year due to COVID-19.

2019 champion (not defending):
Roger Federer (4) who defeated John Isner (7) 6-1 6-4

Jannik Sinner (21) (Italy) v Hubert Hurkacz (26) (Poland)


In the first meeting between the pair, breaks were exchanged early in set one, and then serves held until the eleventh game where Sinner broke again.

The Italian failed to serve out the set, in fact broken back to love.

Hurkacz grabbed his chance in the tiebreak, racing to 6-2. Sinner saved two set points, but Hurkacz won the set 7-6(4).

Seizing on the momentum, Hurkacz broke Sinner’s first two games of set two, and effectively had sealed the match.

Sinner retrieved one of the breaks, but it wasn’t sufficient to prevent Hurkacz winning the set 6-4 and the title 7-6(4) 6-4.


Title number three for Hubert Hurkacz, and the first at Masters 1000 level.

The victory enables Hurkacz to jump 21 spots to a career high ranking of #16

Sinner improves nine places to his career high ranking of #23
