Final in Istanbul.
2021 TEB BNP Paribas Tennis Championship Istanbul - a WTA 250 tournament, on Clay, in Istanbul, Turkey, 19-25 April 2021.
2020 champion (not defending):
Patricia Maria Tig who defeated qualifier Eugenie Bouchard 2-6 6-1 7-6(4)
Final:
Sorana Cirstea (Romania) defeated Elise Mertens (1) (Belgium) 6-1 7-6(3)
After blitzing the top seed in the first set, Cirstea had to rally from 1-4 in the second to force a tie break.
Nine points into the tie break, only one point had gone to the server, and that was with Cirstea, giving her three match points.
Only one was necessary, and the Romanian collected her second WTA title from five finals.
The last final for Cirstea was a losing one in Tashkent September 2019, and her only title before today was 12 and half years ago, also in Tashkent, where she defeated Sabine Lisicki in three sets.
