The event was last held in 2012 when Andreas Seppi (2) defeated Benoit Paire 6-3 6-2
It replaces the Hungarian Open, the final edition which was the 2019 tournament, won by Matteo Berrettini who defeated qualifier Filip Krajinovic 4-6 6-3 6-1

Matteo Berrettini (2) (Italy) defeated Aslan Karatsev (3) (Russia) 6-1 3-6 7-6(0)
This was the fourth ATP title for Berrettini - his third on clay, from five finals.
Berrettini won the 2019 Hungarian Open, the final edition of that tournament, which has been replaced by the return of the Serbia Open, so in effect the Italian has defended his title.
