ATP Semi finals
- Guido Pella (3) v Laslo Djere
Laslo Djere, the Serb, was the Rio Open winner from last week, the event where Pella lost in the first round.
In the opening set of their semi final contest in São Paulo, the pair were both winning over 70% of points on their first serves, but Pella was even better with his second attempt, winning 85% of points when required to deliver it.
Djere broke the Argentine serve with the sole break chance he was offered, and Pella converted one of the four opportunities given him.
A tie break eventuated, and it lasted 22 points before Pella finally prevailed 7-6(10).
Set two was a similar affair with not much between the two. Djere had a better first serve percentage but Pella won a greater share of points when his first serve landed correctly.
Each produced a break point and both were converted, meaning another tie break. Pella again won through, this time a lot quicker, and he booked a place in the final 7-6(10) 7-6(1).
