Garin d Mayer in São Paulo quarters

São Paulo quarter final day:

São Paulo:

Brasil Open - an ATP 250 category tournament, on Red Clay, in São Paulo, Brazil, 25 February - 3 March 2019.

Defending champion:

Fabio Fognini (2) who defeated Nicolas Jarry 1-6 6-1 6-4

ATP Quarter finals

  • Christian Garin v Leonardo Mayer (4)

Mayer won 84% of points on his first serve in the first set, leaving little room for Garin to push for a break of the veteran Argentine.  Garin did just as well on his first delivery, but Mayer capitalised sufficiently on the second effort to achieve a single break of serve, and capture the opening stanza 6-4.

Mayer continued to dominate whenever his primary attempt landed true, only dropping the one point.  However, Garin jumped in on a number of second serves, breaking the Mayer serve once from three chances.

The fourth seed couldn’t complain though, with five opportunities coming his direction, none converted.  Garin levelled the match 4-6 6-4.

Garin snagged the one break point on offer in the decider, where both players won 20 points on their serves, but Mayer lost five more in doing so.

Christian Garin won a semi final spot with his victory 4-6 6-4 6-4

  • Casper Ruud defeated Hugo Dellien 6-1 6-1
