Pegula successfully defends Canadian title

Final day in Toronto.

2024 National Bank Open presented by Rogers, a WTA 1000 tournament, on Hard Outdoor, Toronto, Canada, 6-12 August 2024

Defending champion:
Jessica Pegula (4) who defeated Liudmila Samsonova (15) 6-1 6-0

Final:

Jessica Pegula (3) (USA) v Amanda Anisimova (USA)

Pegula won both previous matches between the players.
The more recent was second round Charleston in April this year.

Pegula broke serve in the first game of the match.
She consolidated to lead 2-0.

Anisimova saved a break point in game five and held.
Avoided going down a double break.

No more break opportunities until Anisimova served at 3-5.
Pegula broke and took the set 6-3.

Anisimova saved three break points in game two of set two, and held for 1-1.
Pegula was broken in game three and trailed 1-2.

Anisimova broke again in game seven to lead 5-2.
She served out the set 6-2.

Pegula broke serve in games two and four of the decider.
She consolidated to lead 5-0.

Anisimova served at 0-5 to stay in the match.
She held and trailed 1-5.

Jessica Pegula served out the match 6-3 2-6 6-1, successively defending her title.

Sixth title and first since Berlin in June this year.
