Garcia wins 2022 WTA Finals

The 2022 WTA Finals - Day 8 - Final

2022 WTA Finals, on Hard Indoor, in Fort Worth, Texas, USA, 31 October - 7 November 2022.

2021 champion (not defending):
Garbiñe Muguruza (6) who defeated Anett Kontaveit (8) 6-3 7-5

Final:

Aryna Sabalenka (7) v Caroline Garcia (6)

The players had met four times before this final, three times in 2018.
The results were split 2-2, Garcia winning the most recent match - Cincinnati semi final this year.

In this final, set one went with serve until a necessary tie break, no break points faced by either player.

In the tie break, though, points began to go against serve.
Garcia won the opening point on Sabalenka’s serve.
Sabalenka returned the favour, winning the third point on Garcia’s serve.

Sabalenka served at 2-3, and failed twice, leaving Garcia ahead 5-2 with two serves to come.
The next point went to Garcia, and she had four set points.
Sabalenka saved two, and was serving at 4-6.

Garcia won her fourth point against the Sabalenka serve and won the set 7-6(4).

Set two began with Garcia achieving the first break of serve for the match.
It would be the only service break, as no more break points were faced.

Garcia served out the set and match 7-6(4) 6-4.

It was the eleventh and biggest title for Caroline Garcia, and she received the Billie Jean King Trophy.
In addition, her ranking improved to a career equalling #4.
To complete her year, Garcia will join her French team mates in Glasgow for the finals of the Billie Jean King Cup.

Unfortunately, Sabalenka won’t be there, as Belarus is banned from ITF, WTA and ATP team competition. (as too is Russia)
