WTA Premier 5 - Doha

The 2020 WTA Tour moves on to Doha this week, and the 56 strong field includes 39 of the worlds top 50 ranked players.

Defending champion:

Elise Mertens who defeated Simona Halep (1) 3-6 6-4 6-3


The following players withdrew after entering but before the main draw was published:

 

- Bianca Andreescu replaced by Jennifer Brady 

- Catherine Bellis replaced by Polona Hercog 

- Danielle Collins replaced by Svetlana Kuznetsova 

- Angelique Kerber replaced by Carla Suarez Navarro 

- Johanna Konta replaced by Ajla Tomljanovic 


Second seed, Simona Halep, was a late withdrawal after the main draw was published, and was replaced by lucky loser Misaki Doi.

Ninth seed Aryna Sabalenka was moved in the draw to take the place of Halep.

Donna Vekić has been instated as 17th seed, and has taken Sabalenka’s previous spot in the draw, now seeded to play Svitolina in the round of sixteen.


Ashleigh Barty, world number 1, is top seed.

The other 15 seeds, including Vekić,  are all in the top 24

The top 8 seeds have first round byes.

- Wildcard Ons Jabeur defeated qualifier Katerina Siniakova 6-3 6-2

- Jelena Ostapenko defeated qualifier Jil Teichmann 7-5 2-6 7-5

- Amanda Anisimova defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-3 7-6(4)

- Svetlana Kuznetsova defeated wildcard Cagla Buyukakcay 6-2 6-2

- Elise Mertens (16) defeated Wang Qiang 6-1 6-2

- Veronika Kudermetova defeated Kristina Mladenovic 7-6(6) 0-6 6-3

- Karolina Muchova defeated Magda Linette 6-3 6-1
