WTA Stuttgart, Istanbul this week

Following time off while the Fed Cup was being contested, there are two WTA tournaments on the go this week, in Germany and Turkey.

This week:

Porsche Tennis Grand Prix (Stuttgart Open) - a WTA Premier category tournament, on Red Clay, in Stuttgart, Germany, 22-28 April 2019.

Defending champion:

Karolina Pliskova (5) who defeated wildcard CoCo Vandeweghe 7-6(2) 6-4


The following players withdrew after entering but before the main draw was published:


- Danielle Collins replaced by Hsieh Su-Wei

- Sloane Stephens replaced by Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova

- Elina Svitolina replaced by Lesia Tsurenko 


Naomi Osaka, world number 1, is top seed.

The other seeds are all in the top 15, five in the top 7.

The top 4 seeds have first round byes.

Defending champion:

Pauline Parmentier who defeated Polona Hercog 6-4 3-6 6-3

- Ons Jabeur replaced by Margarita Gasparyan 

- Tatjana Maria replaced by Lara Arruabarrena 

- Anna Karolina Schmiedlova replaced by Johanna Larsson 

 

Carla Suárez Navarro, world number 27, is top seed.

The other 7 seeds are all in the top 43
