Swiatek into a 2nd AO semi final

2025 Australian Open - Women’s Singles Day 11 (2)

2025 Australian Open, first Grand Slam tournament of the year, on Hard Outdoor, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 12-26 January 2025.

Defending champion:
Aryna Sabalenka (2) who defeated Zheng Qinwen (12) 6-3 6-2

Quarter final 2:

Emma Navarro (8) (USA) v Iga Swiatek (2) (Poland)

The players had met once previously, but it was in 2018.
Swiatek won but that result is meaningless in terms of the 2025 AO.

Swiatek had the much superior Grand Slam tournament record, including here at Melbourne Park.
Therefore, she was heavy favourite to win the quarter final.

Almost predictably Swiatek broke serve in the opening game of set one.

Navarro took Swiatek to deuce in game four but serve was held and the lead was 3-1.

Swiatek broke in the following game and led 4-1.
Consolidation occurred for 5-1.

Serving to stay in the set, Navarro was broken a third time and Swiatek took the set 6-1.

The first five games of set two went with serve.
Two of those games were won by Swiatek but not easily.
In game one, she was taken to deuce, and in game five she had to save a break point.

Swiatek led 3-2, then broke for 4-2.

Navarro served at 2-5 to stay in the match, and was broken.

Swiatek won the match 6-1 6-2 and reached her second Australian Open semi final
