Djokovic d Alcaraz in 2025 AO quarters

2025 Australian Open, first Grand Slam tournament of the year, on Hard Outdoor, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 12-26 January 2025.

Defending champion:
Jannik Sinner (4) who defeated Daniil Medvedev (3) 3-6 3-6 6-4 6-4 6

Quarter final 2:

Novak Djokovic (7) (Serbia) v Carlos Alcaraz (3) (Spain)

The pair had met seven times,previously.
Djokovic led 4-3, although Alcaraz beat Djokovic in the past two Wimbledon finals.
Still, Djokovic had never lost to Alcaraz on a hard court.

In the quarter final, both players began with several blistering forehands highlighting a number of rallies.
Returning was excellent, and breaks were exchanged in the second and third games.

Both were taken to deuce in games five and six, but serves were held in each case.
3-3.

However, Djokovic pulled up sore with what looked like some sort of injury to his leg.
He was winching on some shots, but his serve seemed especially affected.

Serving at 4-4, Djokovic was being showered by the all court shot making of Alcaraz.
Two break points were saved, but not a third, and serve was broken.

Djokovic took a medical time out, and when he returned to court Alcaraz served out the set 6-4.

Djokovic broke Alcaraz in game two of set two, and consolidated for 3-0.
Alcaraz broke back in game five, then saved two break points before holding for 3-3.

Serving at 4-5 to stay in the set, Alcaraz was broken, and Djokovic took the set 6-4.

Alcaraz saved two break points in game two, and another in game four, of set three.
He held serve on both occasions.

Service breaks occurred in games six, seven and eight, leaving Djokovic ahead 5-3.
Djokovic served out the set 6-3.

Djokovic broke serve in the opening game of set four.
He saved a break point in game four before holding for 3-1.

Alcaraz saved a break point in game seven, and held for 3-4.

Djokovic saved two break points and held for 5-3.

Djokovic served at 5-4:for the match.

He did the job 4-6 6-4 6-3 6-4

Another semi final for the 10 time AO champ.
