Monfils wins Auckland title

Qualifier Zizou Bergs (Belgium) v Gaël Monfils (France)

First meeting between the players.

First final at ATP Tour level for Bergs.

Monfils broke serve in the second game of first set,

He led 2-0.

In game four, Bergs had two break points, but couldn’t convert, and Monfils held for 3-1.

Serve was held for the remainder of the set which Monfils won 6-3.

Monfils broke in game three of set two to lead 2-1.

Bergs saved three break points in game six, and held for 2-4.

Serving for the match at 5-4, Monfils saved three break back points before serving out the match 6-3 6-4.

Title number 13 for Gaël Monfils, and first since Stockholm in October 2023.
