WTA - Brisbane, Shenzhen, Auckland

This coming week sees the start of the 2020 WTA season, with 3 tournaments, and seventeen of the worlds top twenty women featuring.

2020 Brisbane International - a WTA Premier tournament, on Hard Greenset Cushion, in Brisbane, Australia, 4-12 January 2020.

Defending champion:

Karolína Plíšková (5) who defeated Lesia Tsurenko 4-6 7-5 6-2 

 

Ash Barty, world number 1, is top seed.

The other 7 seeds are all in the top 13.

The top 2 seeds have first round byes.


2020 Shenzhen Open - a WTA International tournament, on Hard, Plexipave, in Shenzhen, China, 4-11 January 2020.

Defending champion:

Aryna Sabalenka (1) who defeated Alison Riske 4-6 7-6(2) 6-3


Belinda Bencic, world number 8, is top seed.

The other 7 seeds are all in the top 40.

There are no byes.


2020 ASB Classic - a WTA International tournament, on Hard, Greenset, in Auckland, New Zealand, 6-12 January 2020.

Defending champion:

Julia Goerges (2) who defeated qualifier Bianca Andreescu 2-6 7-5 6-1


The following players withdrew after entering but before the main draw was published:

 

- Bianca Andreescu replaced by Christina McHale

- Monica Puig replaced by Jessica Pegula 


Seventh seed, Jelena Ostapenko withdrew after the main draw was published due to personal reasons - she was replaced by lucky loser Ysaline Bonaventure.

Unseeded Alison Van Uytvanck is now drawn to play Serena Williams in the quarter finals.


Serena Williams, world number 10, is top seed.

The other six seeds are all in the top 46.
