First time meeting between the pair.
Barty served first and held. Hercog began with 30-0, based on Barty errors. The top seed levelled, after Hercog hit the net twice. Two game points came and went, the second with a double fault. Barty cashed in on a break chance once Hercog found the net again. 2-0 to the Australian.
Consolidation of the break with an ace and two useful serves. A forehand cross court winner sealed the game. From 0-40, Hercog produced a forehand winner, and Barty errors saw the other break points saved. Another Slovenian winner helped Hercog win her first game.
Barty cruised to 4-1, moving to the net to put away a winner, and donating an ace to finish.
A double fault and Hercog errors assisted Barty to have three break points. One was saved. Another double fault though was costly.
Serving for the set, Barty sent a forehand down the line for a winner. At 30-15, Hercog hit a forehand way out. Two set points. Barty wasted one. On the second, Hercog put a backhand into the net. Barty was a set up 6-1.
Set two began with two service holds, Barty saving two break points.
At 3-4, Barty served a double fault. Then a netted forehand and and a forehand missing badly gave Hercog two break chances. Both were saved, the second with a winning forehand. Serve was held after a cross court forehand winner, and Hercog backhand error.
Hercog mistakes had her at 15-30, and a backhand wide produced a break point. A further errant backhand and Barty took the break. 5-4.
Serving for the match, Barty hit the net twice for 0-30. A lovely Hercog lob produced two break points. An ace out wide, plus another effective first serve erased those. Match point arrived after Hercog couldn’t deal with another Barty delivery. The victory was hers 6-1 6-4.
