Quarter final #2

Qualifier Jennifer Brady v Petra Kvitova (5)

Facing her third GS champion in successive matches, after dismissing Maria Sharapova, and current world #1 Ashleigh Barty, American qualifier Jennifer Brady had dual Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova in trouble from the very start, and the Czech star had to save multiple break points before taking the opening game.

Same struggle for Brady, and 18 minutes passed before two games were finalised. All break points saved and 1-1.

Much more to form for the 2019 AO runner up as she raced through the third game to lead 2-1.

A love game from Brady with aces levelled things at 2-2.

Both players progressed without drama until Kvitova led 5-4. The fifth seed then changed up a gear, applying all her experience to break the American resilience, taking the first set 6-4.

Set two was even until the fourth game when Kvitova broke through, and with the Czech serve pretty much on song, Brady faced a steep road back. So it proved true, and at 2-5, the qualifier needed to hold to stay in the tournament.

A ripping forehand winner from Kvitova made it 15-30. A double fault brought up match point and it was enough for Petra Kvitova to win 6-4 6-2.
