Final:
Alexander Zverev (1) (Germany) v Felix Auger-Aliassime (3) (Canada)
Zverev had won the previous two meetings between the pair, both in 2019, each in straight sets.
The opening game of the match was a struggle for Auger-Aliassime, who from 30-30, survived a break point, saw a game point disappear, then fell when Zverev grabbed his second chance.
At 2-4, Auger-Aliassime was down 0-40, fought back to 30-40, but couldn’t avoid a second break of his serve, and Zverev went to the line serving for the set.
Surprisingly broken, Zverev in turn cracked the Canadian delivery a third time to capture the set 6-3.
In set two, Auger-Aliassime saved a break point to level at 2-2, but in game six was broken.
Zverev himself survived break points the very next game, but consolidated for a 5-2 lead.
The top seed served out the match 6-3 6-3, the reward his 12th career title, first for 2020, and fifth won in his home country.
For Auger-Aliassime, this was his sixth career final, third for 2020, after three in 2019. He has yet to taste the ultimate success.
