Quarter finals

Diego Schwartzman (12) v Dominic Thiem (3) 7-6(1) 5-7 6-7(6) 7-6(5) 6-2

In a memorable match lasting over five hours, but never relenting in its quality of tennis, Schwartzman and Thiem exchanged breaks in the sixth and seventh games of the first set, before the Argentine dominated the eventual tie break.
Set two saw Schwartzman save seven break points in the ninth game, but Thiem won the final three games to level at 6-7(1) 7-5.
Eight service breaks in set three, including Schwartzman failing to convert a set point, led to another tie break, this time Thiem winning out with his third opportunity.
In set four, Schwartzman wasted three set points when serving at 5-4, but prevailed in the tie break 7-6(5).
The decider travelled five games without trouble on serve, but Thiem crumbled in the sixth, down 0-40, and Schwartzman converted the first of his chances.
Thiem, serving at 2-5, led 30-15, but won no more points.
Diego Schwartzman defeated the third seed 7-6(1) 5-7 6-7(6) 7-6(5) 6-2 to reach his first Grand Slam semi final.
He is now guaranteed to be top ten for the first time in his career, and could be as high as #8. That’s where he sits now in the live rankings - only Carreño Busta and Rublev can pass him - Rublev needs to win his quarter final. Carreño Busta needs to make the final.

Jannik Sinner v Rafael Nadal (2)

Sinner began well, having a break point in the fifth game.,Nadal saved it, and games went to serve until 5-5. Sinner broke the Spanish serve with the third of three break chances, only to drop his own when serving for the set, which Nadal won in a tie break.
Sinner again broke Nadal in set two, taking a 3-1 advantage, but Nadal struck back immediately. At 4-4 and 40-15, Sinner fell away, and Nadal grabbed the next four points to break. Serving for a two set lead, Nadal couldn’t convert the first set point coming his way, but used the second to lead 7-6(4) 6-4.
Nadal turned the screws in set three, breaking Sinner in his first two service games to lead 4-0.
At 1-5 Sinner was broken to love, leaving Nadal the victor 7-6(4) 6-4 6-1.
